Additional Remarks: |

Construction number 268. Built in 1983.
Registered in France as F-WZMV for pre-delivery test
flights. First flight July 29, 1983. Registered in Singapore
as 9V-STG. Delivered to Singapore Airlines, September 9,
1983. Bought by PIA, May 15, 1985. Registered in Pakistan as
AP-BCJ for PIA. On October 17, 2001, AP-BCJ was operating
PIA flight PK-231 on Islamabad-Peshawar-Dubai route. On
landing at Dubai Airport, the right main landing gear of AP-BCJ
collapsed soon after landing at Dubai Airport. All 11 crew
members and 193 passengers remained safe in this accident.
The Airbus sustained damage to its right wing structure and
its engine number 2, which partly broke off the wing. Due to
the serious nature of damage and old age of AP-BCJ
(manufactured in 1983) it was considered un-economical to
repair it. The Airbus was declared a write-off and withdrawn
from use by PIA. Registration AP-BCJ removed from Pakistan
Aircraft Register on unknown date. Aircraft sunk as an
artificial reef off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates
(UAE). The Airbus lies in front of the Atlantis, The Palm,
resort located on Dubai's reclaimed artificial island The
Palm, about 10 minutes boat drive at a depth of 12 meters. |
