Additional Remarks:   Construction number 20275. Registered in Pakistan as AP-AWB for PIA. Delivered on August 10, 1970. Registration AP-AWB removed from Pakistan Aircraft Register on March 18, 1972. Registered in United Kingdom (UK) as G-AZPW, March 20, 1972. Leased out to British Caledonian Airways Limited (BCal), March 25, 1972. Returned to PIA, September 30, 1972. To Pakistan and registration G-AZPW cancelled, October 1, 1972. Registered as AP-AWZ for PIA. AP-AWZ crashed near Taif, Saudi Arabia, on November 26, 1979. All 11 crew members and 145 passengers died in this accident. AP-AWZ was operating flight PK-740, the aircraft departed Jeddah at 01.29h for a flight to Karachi. The aircraft was climbing to FL370 when, at 01.47h, a stewardess reported a fire near the aft cabin passenger door. The crew started a descent from FL300 and were cleared to descend to 4000ft. Following a mayday call at 02.03h nothing more was heard from the flight. The aircraft crashed in a level rocky area at an elevation of 3000ft and burst into flames. Registration AP-AWZ removed from Pakistan Aircraft Register on March 13, 1980.
